The webinar on "The Impact of COVID-19 on the Economy of Azerbaijan" was held on the 7th of August 2020.
Around 40 people actively participated in the webinar. Representatives of such governmental agencies as the State Statistics Committee, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Oil Fund, representatives of foreign financial institutions, as well as academics and independent experts actively participated at the webinar and discussed the negative impacts of COVID-19 on different sectors of the Azerbaijani economy.
Eurasia Hub Experts, Ingilab Ahmadov, Azer Mehtiev, Rovshan Aghayev, and Samir Aliyev presented their research on the COVID-19's Macroeconomic Implications, The opportunities of SOFAZ, State Budget, and SOCAR's Challenges.
Presentations of experts were followed by questions from representatives of governmental agencies and civil society. Productive discussions on the current situation and possible ways of tackling challenges created by the outbreak of COVID-19 were held during the webinar.
It should be noted that for the first time a comprehensive report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country's economy has been prepared. The Azerbaijani and English versions of the report will be shared on the website of the Eurasia Knowledge Hub soon.
The results of the report and policy recommendations will be submitted to the relevant government agencies and internal discussions will be held with them.
