Eurasia Hub will conduct Energy Research Workshop on May 19, 2017. The workshop aims to draw attention to the topics of current interest within the energy sector. It will cover diverse aspects of energy, such as efficiency, Caspian energy transit, transparency and governance issues. This event aims to bring together members of Eurasia Researchers Network as well as other participants who might be interested to join the network.
The workshop will be divided into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Nevenka Hrovatin, professor from Ljubljana University will give a talk on “Factors Impacting Energy Efficiency Investments” based on her latest research.
The second part will be dedicated to energy transit and the impact of EITI membership on governance and accountability. Dr. Sevinj Mammadova will talk on the place of Azerbaijan in regional energy transit with a focus on the strategies used by the government strategies and foreign investors. The Workshop will conclude with the presentation of Farid Guliyev in which he will outline the key empirical findings from the scholarly literature on the impacts of EITI adoption on governance and accountability.

Prof. Nevenka Hrovatin is professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana (FELU). Her research deals with public utilities: their liberalisation, regulation, privatisation and pricing policies with special focus on energy, telecommunications and water sectors. She has published several research papers in international journals (Energy Policy, Telecommunications Policy, Journal of Productivity Analysis, Utilities Policy and Journal of Cleaner Production among others. She has also been working as a consultant to the Slovenian government, the Slovenian electricity and gas regulator the Energy Agency of the Republic of Slovenia and several utilities. At the FELU she was a Vice-Dean for International Relations (2001-2006). Currently she is the head of the research group with 13 members sponsored by the Slovenian Research Agency and the head of the of the Joint master's programme in Public Sector and Environmental Economics – JMPSE (University of Ljubljana and University of Sarajevo). Since 2015 she has been Vice-President of the Slovenian Association of Energy Economics, a national affiliate of the IAEE.
Dr Sevinj Mammadova Sevinj Mammadova is Executive Director of Junior Achievement Azerbaijan. She has joined JAA in 2014. In 2015 she started her academic career as guest lecturer at Baku state University and has been teaching Peace and Conflict Studies to Bachelor degree students during the fall/winter semester. Before she worked as program manager at Caucasus Research Resource Center. Prior to joining CRRC, Sevinj was a research fellow at the Berlin Center for Caspian Region Studies. From 2009 to 2011 she participated at the DAAD program "Conflict Prevention in the Regions of South Caucasus, Central Asia and Moldova" in Germany and Kyrgyzstan.
Sevinj Mammadova holds Ph.D. in Political Sciences from Free University of Berlin, Germany. She graduated from Program “Caspian Region Environmental and Energy Studies” and wrote her dissertation on Pipeline Politics and Natural Gas Supply from Azerbaijani to Europe. She holds a MA. in Peace and Conflict Studies from Otto-von Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany and a MA in International Relations from Khazar University, Baku.
Dr Farid Guliyev, PhD (Bremen, 2014) is a research associate at Eurasia Hub. In 2016-2017 (for 6 months), he was a Fulbright Scholar at the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, DC where he conducted research transparency and accountability initiatives in natural resource governance with a focus on the EITI. His recent publications include a special issue of the Caucasus Analytical Digest on human capital in Azerbaijan and a policy paper "Tackling the Resource Curse: The Role of Democracy in Achieving Sustainable Development in Resource-rich Countries (with Anar K. Ahmadov) for Stockholm-based International IDEA.
